the object

One knob. Two buttons. A handle.

Robi is a speaker with a library inside. White shell, red handle, a knob a two-year-old can find with their eyes shut. Podcasts, books, music, your own voice. Everything you put on it stays on it, so it plays where phones give up.

Controls

Everything a kid needs is on the front.

No screen, no menu, no mode. Each control does one thing, and does the same thing every time, so a three-year-old learns it in an afternoon.

Robi from the front: two grilles, the red knob in the middle, a small light below it
  • The knob

Turn for volume. Press for play and pause. It is the biggest thing on the front and the only red one, so it is the one they reach for.

  • Two side buttons

Next on one end, back on the other. Big enough for mittens, stiff enough not to fire in a backpack.

  • One light

Below the knob. It pulses once when Robi wakes, stays steady while it plays, and flickers while something new is downloading. That is all it ever says.

  • The handle

Part of the shell, not a strap. It is how Robi gets carried to the car, and how it gets carried back.

Compared

Robi, Yoto and Toniebox.

Yoto and Toniebox are well made, and lots of families own one. The difference is where the stories come from, and what each new one costs.

Yoto

The Yoto Player is about $100. Each story, album or podcast pack is a card you buy, usually $10 to $15. You can also record onto blank Make Your Own cards.

Toniebox

A Toniebox starter set is about $80 to $150. Each story is a figure that sits on top of the box, usually about $20. Creative Tonies hold your own recordings.

Robi

$149 once, preliminary. No cards and no figures: Robi plays the podcasts, audiobooks, music and recordings your family already has, chosen from your phone and stored on the player. By the eighth story, a card or figure player has cost more than Robi, and it keeps going.

US retail prices checked October 2026; they change often. Yoto, Toniebox and Tonies are trademarks of their owners. kid.studio is not affiliated with either company.
