Privacy Policy
Effective: June 22, 2026
kid.studio makes Robi, a screen-free audio player for kids. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices parents have. It is written with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in mind because our product is directed to families with children under 13.
Who we are
This site and the Robi product are operated by Kid Labs LLC, a California limited liability company headquartered in Santa Cruz, CA. kid.studio is a brand of Kid Labs LLC. Mailing address: 343 Soquel Ave PMB 269, Santa Cruz, CA 95062. You can reach us at privacy@kid.studio for any privacy questions or requests.
Information we collect from children
Children do not sign in to Robi and do not create accounts. Robi has no screen and no microphone input from the child. The limited information we receive that may relate to a child comes from the parent through the companion app:
- A first name or nickname — optionally provided by the parent so personalized stories can address the child by name.
- An age or age range — optionally provided by the parent so story content is age-appropriate.
- Playback activity — which episode or story is playing, paused, or finished, reported by the device so the app can show "now playing" and resume where the child left off.
- Recorded stories, dedications, and cover photos — a parent or family member can use the companion app to record a story or a short dedication in their own voice, and optionally choose a cover photo for it. These recordings are made by the adult operating the phone app — Robi itself has no microphone — and the audio and any chosen photo are uploaded to our storage so the story can play on the child's device. A parent controls this content and can delete it at any time.
We do not knowingly collect a child's last name, home address, phone number, email, or precise geolocation, and Robi has no child-facing microphone. Any voice recordings or photos in the app are created and controlled by the parent through the companion app, as described above; we do not collect them from the child directly.
Information we collect from parents
- Account information — email address used to sign in to the companion app.
- Device setup information — the Wi-Fi network name the parent provisions the device onto, and a device pairing token. Wi-Fi passwords are transmitted only to the device during setup and are not stored on our servers.
- Subscription and purchase information — if a parent subscribes, Apple, Google, or Stripe process the payment and share a receipt or subscription status with us. We do not receive full payment card numbers.
- Support communications — if a parent emails us, we keep that correspondence to answer it and to follow up.
Crash reports and diagnostics
We do not currently collect crash reports or diagnostic data from the companion app or the Robi device. If we add crash reporting or diagnostics in the future, we will update this policy — before any such collection begins — to describe what is collected, how it is used, and how long it is kept. Any such diagnostics would be aggregated and would not be used to build a profile of your child.
The marketing website and waitlist
Our website (kid.studio) is aimed at parents and other adults — it is where you can learn about Robi and join our early-access waitlist. The information below relates to the website only; it is separate from the child information described above.
- Waitlist signup — when you join the waitlist we collect your email address. If you also choose to apply for the beta program, we collect the additional details you provide: your name, country and state, how many children you have and their ages, the audio products your family uses today and what audio time looks like in your family, what interests you about Robi, and how you heard about us. Beta details are optional — you can join the waitlist with just an email.
- How you found us — when you arrive at our site we may note the referring website, any campaign link you followed, and the page you landed on, so we can understand where interest in Robi is coming from. This is about the source of a website visit, not about any child.
- Website analytics — we may use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-first analytics service that does not use cookies, does not fingerprint visitors, and does not track you across other websites. Where enabled, it gives us only aggregate counts (page views, top referrers) and never builds a profile of you or your child.
Waitlist responses are collected and stored for us by Google (Google Forms / Google Sheets) acting as our service provider. We use this information to send you product and launch updates, to consider applicants for the beta program, and to understand which channels reach families. You can ask us to remove you at any time by emailing privacy@kid.studio, and every update email includes an unsubscribe option.
How we use information
- To provide the core product: play the content you choose, sync playlists, and keep Robi up to date.
- To generate personalized stories when a parent explicitly requests one.
- To process subscriptions and handle billing support.
- To respond to parent requests and support inquiries.
- To keep the service secure, detect abuse, and debug problems.
We do not use children's information to serve advertising, we do not sell children's information, and we do not use children's information to train AI models.
Who we share information with
We only share information with service providers that help us run the product, and only for that purpose. The key providers:
- Anthropic — used to generate the text of personalized stories when a parent creates a story. Before the request leaves the app, we replace your child's name with a placeholder, so Anthropic receives the story theme, age range, and any notes you typed — but never your child's name. Anthropic does not use this content to train its models on our behalf.
- ElevenLabs — used to convert the approved story text into narrated audio (text-to-speech). The story text, which includes the name you have entered for your child, is sent to ElevenLabs to generate audio; the audio file is then delivered to your Robi.
- Apple, Google, and Stripe — handle subscription billing when a parent subscribes through the applicable store or checkout flow. Google also stores our waitlist responses as described above.
- Supabase — hosts our backend: account sign-in, stored stories and generated audio, subscription records, and the secure proxy that brokers the AI-provider calls described above. Other cloud hosting and storage providers host the content library.
We may also share information if required by law, to protect the safety of a child or another person, or as part of a corporate transaction (merger or acquisition). Any such successor would be bound by this policy or give parents notice and the chance to opt out.
Parental rights and controls
Parents are in control of any information about their child. At any time, a parent can:
- Review what we have — email privacy@kid.studio from the account email and we will send a copy.
- Correct or update a child's first name or age directly in the companion app.
- Delete a child profile, a specific generated story, or the entire account. When you delete the account, we remove the associated child information from our active systems within 30 days.
- Refuse further collection by deleting the account or removing the child profile; Robi will continue to play downloaded content but new personalized stories will not be created.
Data retention
We keep information only as long as it is useful for the purpose we collected it for:
- Account and device-pairing information — for the life of the account.
- Generated and recorded story content — story text, generated or recorded audio, dedications, and cover photos — until the parent deletes it, or until the account is deleted.
- Waitlist responses — until you ask us to remove you, or until the waitlist program ends.
- Subscription receipts — kept as long as required for tax, accounting, and dispute handling.
When a parent deletes an account, we remove the associated child information from our active systems within 30 days and request deletion from our service providers. Backups may take longer to fully expire.
Security
Traffic between the companion app, the Robi device, and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Pairing between the app and the device uses a short-lived token so that only your app can control your device. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect data appropriately for its sensitivity and for the fact that our users include children.
Families outside the United States
kid.studio is based in the United States, and the information we collect is stored and processed in the U.S. You are welcome to join our waitlist or apply to the beta from anywhere. If you are outside the U.S. — including in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area (EEA), or another region with children's-privacy laws — the following also applies to you.
- Parental consent. When you give us information about a child — for example, your child's age in a beta application — you confirm that you are that child's parent or legal guardian and that you consent to our processing it as described in this policy. Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR (Article 8), consent for a child below the applicable age (13 in the UK; 13–16 depending on the EEA country) must be given or authorized by a parent or guardian. If you are not the child's parent or guardian, please do not submit information about that child.
- Legal basis. For waitlist and beta-application information, we rely on your consent. You can withdraw it at any time, which will not affect processing already carried out before you withdraw.
- Data controller. The controller of your information is Kid Labs LLC, 343 Soquel Ave PMB 269, Santa Cruz, CA 95062, USA. For any data-protection request, contact privacy@kid.studio.
- Your rights. Subject to local law, you — and, for a child, the child's parent or guardian — may ask us to access, correct, delete, or provide a copy of the information we hold, object to or restrict our processing, and withdraw consent. Email privacy@kid.studio and we will respond as required by applicable law.
- International transfers. Because we operate from the U.S., your information is transferred to and processed in the U.S. Where required for transfers from the UK or EEA, we use appropriate safeguards — such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses together with the UK Addendum — with the service providers described above.
- Complaints. If you are in the UK or EEA, you may lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority (for example, the UK Information Commissioner's Office). We'd appreciate the chance to resolve your concern first at privacy@kid.studio.
We practice data minimization: we ask only for what we need to evaluate beta fit and to reach you, and you can join the waitlist with just an email if you'd rather not share family details.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change that affects how we handle information about children, we will notify parents through the companion app and by email before the change takes effect, and — where required by law — we will ask for renewed parental consent.
